show of wealthA popular rhyme goes; life style of the rich and the famous, some die with the name and some die nameless. The quest for wealth, affluence and materialism is closely associated with fame. It is has become very regular to see pictures of Jayz and Beyonce chilling on their yacht or P-square cooling off aboard a private jet, Don Jazzy sipping from a £1.2m Champagne, Inyanya displaying stacks of dollar bills, Dr. Sid in his newly completed duplex and Wizkid showing off his new Porsche panamera automobile and so on.

Celebrities and superstars are most times under pressure to live vague lives that are often reflective of their supposed material acquisition and status. Being in the public eye attracts so much media attention and some celebrities are also caught in the web of trying desperately to feed their egos while outdoing each other in vain competition in their world of make believe.

Celebrity net wealth worth analysis statistics from the Forbes Magazine and the current social media craze on facebook, twitter, youtube, instagram and many others have also been largely blamed. All these and more can rightly be attributed to some of the factors that warrant celebrity wealth show offs? Does the kind of car a celebrity drive or the house he or she lives in really matter? Does flagrant display of cash or fat bank accounts command respect for celebrities? Or does that in itself pose security threats and mounts further pressure to retain status quo? Are some of these show-offs mere publicity stunts, faked or factual? Are there moral restrictions to this trend?

Music enthusiasts and fans are sometimes led to believe that their idols live life of extravagance to their chagrin. Some have even gone on to engage them in online face offs. Aspiring artistes have also being deluded to believe that these flagrant show off of wealth and material acquisitions are the major driving and motivating factors rather than the passion and quest for true perfection. Other celebrities who have also chosen to maintain low profiles thereby leading simple lives of humility devoid of controversies are sometimes taunted by journalists hungry for headline stories.

Should the media also share in the blame? Some wise celebrities chide themselves with the fact that the current fame and attention is only seasonal, thus refuse to be carried away by the show side of the game choosing rather to be shrewd business minded ahead of the rainy days; after all its all showbiz.
Irrespective of all the material acquisition and perceived celebrity success; the true measurement of wealth and success lies in how much impact and wealth opportunities celebrities have created in their society at large. It is therefore pertinent to note that neither the late Fela Anikulapo Kuti, Bob Marley nor Michael Jackson are being celebrated today several years after their demise for their wealth or material acquisitions but for the deep impact they had on humanity!
