‘Why I Attacked 2face Idibia’ – Blackface
The last few days in the Nigerian Entertainment Industry have been dominated by beefs and series of accusations from different players in the industry.
The Nigerian Music Industry was engulfed by another form of crisis when veteran singer, Blackface publicly called out his ‘friend’, 2face Idibia – now 2baba – for copyright theft and back-biting. An enraged Blackface who also accused Wizkid for stealing for him also threatened to sue 2face Idibia.
Speaking on why he attacked 2face Idbia, Blackface disclosed in a recent interview that all he wanted from the iconic pop act was the proper acknowledgement for using his materials. “2face feels I am someone you can trample upon. I am one person that have taught these guys how to be a good song writer and also taught them the rudiments of music. Yet, they will just see one as nothing. I am not expecting anything from 2face but just simple credits. Just like when Kennis music signed him, they did ‘African Queen’ and I was not given credit and that took them time.”
You will recall that 2face Idibia, in his reaction, said it was unfortunate that Blackface went public with his allegations. “It is just so unfortunate. I do not know where it is coming from but I am trying to think of different reasons. At first, I thought his account was hacked”.
In the years past, 2face Idibia and Blackface – both members of the defunct group, Plantashun Boiz – once had issues over ownership of the popular song, ‘African Queen’. The pair however agreed to ‘joint’ ownership some 4 years after the song had clinched several awards which is the first of its kind in Nigerian Music history.
